XYZ, in collaboration with ‘Empowering Mobeds’, is launching an engaging online religious class, for children who have completed their Navjote. Starting 23rd April, 2025, at 7:45 pm, these 40-minute, weekly sessions promise to deepen your child’s connection with our glorious Zoroastrian faith. The main aim of these classes is to bring together young Zoroastrians from different walks of life on a shared platform to reconnect with their faith in a simple, meaningful way. These classes offer the opportunity for our young ones to rediscover the beauty, meaning and correct pronunciation of our timeless prayers, while also helping those who wish to refresh and relearn.
Here are answers to queries received by Parsi Times:
Class Schedule, Curriculum, Duration and Format: The class is conducted once a week, every Wednesday, for 30 minutes (7:45 pm to 8:15 pm IST), and is divided into three engaging segments of 10 minutes each – the Prayer Segment (exploring meaning and pronunciation of prayers, deepening spiritual understanding); Storytelling Segment (legends from the Shahnameh); and Gujarati Language Segment (learning to read, write and speak Gujarati).
Accessibility: While this initiative is Mumbai-based, these sessions are open to all Zoroastrians globally who have completed their Navjote. Held on Wednesday evenings, from 7:45 pm – 8:15 pm (IST), most children can log in from home via Zoom. Those who miss a session or can’t join the live sessions, can catch up with recordings of the classes which will be released every Sunday on YouTube.
Who can attend?
Though the class is aimed at Zoroastrians who have completed their Navjote, and those who may not have had regular exposure to Zoroastrian teachings and seek to reconnect or relearn, it also welcomes Zoroastrians who wish to learn more about the religion, especially parents who could attend alongside their children. There’s no age limit or restriction – only a genuine curiosity and willingness to learn.
Is there a fee?
There is no fee to join the online class, it’s completely free. Offline visits or field trips could incur a minimal cost to cover logistics.
Are there any offline or in-person activities? Yes indeed! Offline/in-person activities are planned once every two months to deepen the learning experience. This includes organizing meet-ups focused on guiding participants on their correct recitation and proper method of tying the Kasti, as also planned visits to The Alpaiwalla Museum, Bhikha Behram Kua, Doongarwadi and trips to Agiaries and Atashbehrams. These outings make the entire experience more personal, offering a meaningful, hands-on way to connect with our religion and culture.
Will Mobeds address the sessions? Mobeds will take on the role of speakers and facilitators during the sessions, with even our young Navars and Martabs making the session more relatable to younger community members. We hope for our wider community to benefit from the wisdom of our highly educated Mobeds who are well-versed in Zoroastrian scriptures and traditions and deserve to be respected not just as religious figures, but as mentors, guides, and teachers who are open to questions and eager to share their deep knowledge.
